Phillippa Stroud – she cures gays.

Conservative leader David Cameron has stood behind Philippa Stroud, amid allegations that she was part of a group which sought to ‘cure’ homosexuality using prayer and spirituality.

The Observer reported the allegations, however there has been little on the broadcast news. Twitter has been alive with #PhillippaStroud tweets. There are blogs from people claiming they worked with Phillippa on this project. As I write, there is a demonstration against Phillippa at her constituency office.

The question remains, why did the broadcast media not touch the story?

That question has been answered too, it would seem. Allegations have been made by many, including Liberal Conspiracy, that the Conservative party’s media machine has threatened the broadcasters with some kind of legal action.

It’s galling to think that a political party would stoop so low to suppress the broadcast of a story which would effectively influence voters intentions.

Phillippa Stroud herself has released a statement where she denies that she has ever thought of homosexuality as an illness.

Phillippa Stroud has not, however, denied that she has tried to ‘cure’ homosexuality using prayer and religion. The usual political way of answering the question you want to answer, rather than the question you are asked, has turned around and bit poor Stroud on the bum. Hard. It even left teeth marks.

Cameron backing the woman, as he has backed Chris Grayling over his comments, shows that the Conservatives do not believe in equality. They do not believe that every person in the UK has equal rights. They believe in themselves.

If you want a bigot for an MP, vote Tory.
