Westminster Council got a bit of a battering this week. They have a plan to increase the hours that parking is chargeable within the West End, and to rais the prices for residential areas outside of the centre of London. Westminster Council needs to raise £22m, and the car parking charges would raise £7m.
They’ve argued a lot, including on the local TV news, that the charges are designed to combat congestion. With this whole congestion charging scheme, is congestion Westminster’s problem anymore? Too many cooks?
