The Mayor of Camden has been suspended from his post, after being arrested by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of claiming bisability benefits illegally.
55 year old Omar Faruque Ansari hasn’t even been in the job for two years. Camden Council were very quick to point out that the alleged offences “don’t relate to Mr Ansari’s work at the council.”
Pardon me? If anyone elected to represent me has been arrested for fraudulently claiming benefits, then that is something to do with his work upholding the benefit divisions of the Council he is Mayor of. These are only allegations at the moment, and no doubt we’ll either hear lots more, or nothing more, on the subject.
It’s also noteworthy that I know a former Councillor for Barnsbury, in Islington. This gentleman has a home in London, and a home in Wales. He also claims housing benefit for both, as well as disability living allowance.
Is it inherent in the party that you must claim something you’re not wholly entitled to? Is it a rule that Lib Dem Councillors must be dishonest? I can safely say that those Libs that I know are fairly scatty at best, and downright mentally challenged at worst. But that’s no different to any other party, really, is it.
