Information about you is private, everyone understands this. There are different levels of private data, and the things you really don’t want others to find out are classed as ‘sensitive private data’.
So you can imagine my surprise when, during a complaint resolution case with CISAS, Orange posted them all of the seucrity details you’d need to access my account. CISAS then distribute the information provided by Orange to their adjudicators, and to me by post and email.
What has really scared me is that the password is shown on the screen to all and sundry when anyone from Orange accesses your account. So if you get through to the Asian call centres, where the service is sub-contracted to a local company, you really don’t know that the people accessing your information aren’t going to misuse it.
The only way to be safe is to make sure your phone company doesn’t have the same password as you’d use for a bank, or anything else for that matter.
The issue of sending something personal such as a password in the first place gives me serious cause for concern. Perhaps I’ll change comnpanies…
