Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd have done it again...

Yes. Today I receive another letter from them. Despite the hassle of dealing with them in this post, they’ve sent me another letter. Further below I disect the letter, but first I want to draw your attention to an Advertising Standards Authority ruling:

Advertising Standards Authority ruling on previous mailing from Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd.

Before you read that, I should draw your attention to three things:

  1. Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd. had a complaint against them upheld on the grounds that their previous mailings breached CAP Code clause 7.1 on the grounds of TRUTHFULNESS.
  2. Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd. had a complaint agsint them upheld on the grounds that their previous mailings breached CAP code clause 43.2 on the grounds of database practice. They won’t even tell the ASA where they get their mailing list from.
  3. Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd. had a complaint against them upheld on the grounds that their previous mailings breached CAP code clause 7.1 on the grounds of TRUTHFULNESS.

You’ll get the point of why I’ve over emphasised those three points, and used such large red letters to emphasise that the company breached rules on truthfulness when you see a reconstruction of what they send people:

So, if you get a letter from:

Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd.,
Unit 5,
Capitol Trading Park,
Kirkby Bank Road,
Kirkby L33 7SY

You can safely throw it in the bin. I opened mine, and was confronted with a big red “IMPORTANT NOTICE” which was “REQUIRING URGENT ATTENTION”. Their capitals, not mine. As with the last time they wrote to me, I was a little sceptical as to how factual their letter heading was.

Foolishly, I read on, I’m re-writing here the exact colour/bold/grammar that they sent me…

“YOUR SKY DIGITAL SATELLITE SYSTEM WARRANTY IS DUE TO EXPIRE.” I’ll correct them here, my Sky box was covered by a standard warranty which expired several years ago.

“WHY WAIT 3 DAYS FOR A SERVICE CALL, WHEN OUR UNIQUE SAME DAY SERVICE IS AVAILABLE FROM ONLY £5.99 PER MONTH.” Since you ask, I wouldn’t pay that because if I had put that amount in a bank account each month since my Sky warranty expired, I could afford to buy a new HD box for myself.

“Call 0871 423 7974 without delay”

I’m wondering why they request my telephonic company so immediately, and find the answer in their smaller block capitals…

AS SOON AS YOUR SKY DIGITAL SYSTEM IS OVER 12 MONTHS OLD, YOUR STANDARD SKY WARRANTY EXPIRES. IN SHORT THE SYSTEM IS NOW YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR AND MAINTAIN. NO MORE FREE CALL-OUTS!

IF YOU REQUIRE A SERVICE CALL AND YOUR SKY DIGITAL SYSTEM IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, YOU WILL NOW BE CHARGED A MINIMUM CALL OUT FEE OF £72. [I assume this is the feeble excuse they have found to write to me again, but it holds no water.]

RESTORE PEACE OF MIND AND EXTEND YOUR SKY DIGITAL WARRANTY WITH US. WE’RE ONLY A PHONE CALL AWAY WITH EASY PAYMENT OPTIONS BY CHEQUE, DIRECT DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD

OUR UNIQUE SAME DAY SERVICE* MEANS THAT IF YOU CALL OUR SERVICE LINE BEFORE 10AM WE WILL ENDEAVOUR TO HAVE AN ENGINEER AT YOUR HOUSE THAT DAY. [Three things strike me, a * in a sentence, not a 1 which would look semi-professional; the other two are that they will endeavour to have an engineer at my house that day. What is endeavour? How hard will you really try? Come on, I don't want to be left without the latest Katie Price and Peter Andre story on Living TV! Another question, would this engineer care to show me his professional qualification upon arrival, along with his I.D.?]

I finally find the little * at the bottom of the large upper case capitals. I squint to see the smallest writing.

*service calls dependent on engineer availability and stock levels. (Not including weekends or bank holidays.)

Sorry, my mobile phone insurance costs far less, and guarantees me someone with a replacement phone on my door that day, are you even trying to provide a service here?

I’m sorry, I don’t buy it. Although I’m not going to get a warranty for a Sky box that’s done fine for several years, I felt obliged to check my options. Here’s a price-comparison: [28 June 2008]

DSWC Ltd. SKY
Simple Sky System £5.99 per month £5.75 per month, for 3 boxes
Sky+ £9.59 per month £8.25 per month, inc 1 SkyHD or Sky+ box or 2 normal boxes
Two Simple Sky Systems £9.99 per month £5.75 per month for THREE boxes
Sky+ and a Simple Sky System £12.99 per month £8.25 per month, includes TWO Simple Sky Systems

I’m sorry, I’d rather pay the lower price to Sky for a next day service. Maybe three days at the outset, if they are really busy and somoene’s off with gastric flu, just to cover themselves.

I haven’t given a good enough idea of how childishly Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd. convey themselves in their letter. I really cannot recall ever having received any information in writing which was an “IMPORTANT NOTICE” which was “REQUIRING URGENT ATTENTION” with those two parts covering 1/7 of a page. Any solicitor, hospital or doctor etc who has felt the requirement to write to me has used a modest letterhead. So why does Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd. feel the need to make such a striking impression?

We’re all human, and allowed to make our own choices, but believe me, from what I can tell, and Im not a lawyer, professional or anything clever like that, if you use these Digital Satellite Warranty Cover people, you’re a fool.

Oh yeah, their FREEPOST address, which you can send things to is:

I’m a member of the Mail Preference Service, I’ve informed them. To me, if you post something to me, it becomes my property to disclose at my will. Next time I receive a letter from these people I’m going to get more personal legal advice.

Update 12th July 2008:

I received another “IMPORTANT NOTICE, REQUIRING URGENT ATTENTION” today. Apparently it’s my final reminder that I need to take them up on their exclusive offer. I still can’t see anything exclusive about it, and their prices are still more than Sky would charge. They’ve introduced a same day service, so long as I report a fault to them by 10:00am and wait in all day.

The Mail Preference Service has responded to say that they will take up the case.

DSWC warranty invitation received by post yesterday with instruction that if I did not wish to extend warranty, telephone 0871 423 7974 before 08/08/2010 to cancel. HOWEVER, THIS TELEPHONE NUMBER IS CURRENTLY UNOBTAINABLE.
DSWC under their published terms and conditions are entitled to automatically renew the subscription if not notified to the contrary by the due date.
This is not a unique procedure, for example the Automobile Association use the same technique.
I, along with others, was conned by the telephone patter that the company represented Sky, and foolishly gave debit card details for payment.Cancellation and replacement of the card with a new one (which will have different numbers) before the payment is made from your account is the safest option if the number remains unobtainable.

I was bombarded 2 years ago with letters from sky digital warranty & was under the impression this was from Sky themselves – I joined & for 18 months never called once for any servicing….We had a problem last month with our sky+ & waited several days before we were called back…the engineer told us the problem was a tree over the road from us which had grown & was blocking the signal but he wasnt able to move the dish higher as it was a ‘special height job’ – he re-aligned the dish but the problem still remains intermittently…2 days later I notice another DD had been set up on my account under a new name of digital satellite (old one stated SDWS) & 2 payments were taken out!! This is illegal… On calling the customer service rep to complain she advised me that I was held to contract until sept 2010 (I joined in sept 2008) I argued this was not correct but she remained adamant this aws the case – I have cancelled both direct debits & hold out no hope of ever getting the refund – total scam.I have now contacted Sky themselves to take out their insurance…..CONSUMERS BEWARE

I have just had the same phone call with Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd, who because I did not cancel before the year was up, I am now subject to a legally binding contract for another 12 months. What a scam!! I have never known a company, once you have served the legally binding period, to make you subject to another 12 months, even if you do not want to. i will now have to pay the £25 cancellation fee to get out of this contract. Can anyone advise me?

I just feel I`m another conned idiot
I have just read a lot of the info here and feel I am not alone!!
Thanks for the wake up call I have just had my renewal through from Sky so looked at this on my system. I have now instructed my bank to cancel the DD.
    Saving me £9.59 per month!!!
    Cheers all

  • Simon

If you are scammed by this lot ( like I was ) read the terms and conditions carefully. If you paid via your credit card they will automatically renew your subscription after 12 months.Writing to them and cancelling will not be sufficient you will need to cancel or change your credit card. This will be the only way for you to prevent the money from being taken.

  • Although my monies involved are minor when compared with some unfortunate people, I have referred the matter to the Indemnities/Fraud Depts. of RBS and to Highland Council Trading Standards. The police are next, as DSWC must be stopped.

p.s. “Officialdom” seems reluctant to take early initiatives in matters such as this!

  • Sarah S

    * UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD YOU DEAL WITH THESE !!!!* Also had a call today from( DSWC Ltd )asking why my payment had been canceled (after they were taking the money out of my bank acc since approx Jan!)he told me to make a payment and that I was on a 12 month contract with them, that couldn’t be canceled. I told him 2 payments going out of acc, 1 for the Sky Protect and 1 which was this company but I only with Sky Protect and still none the wiser who this guy was on phone !!!! They took £7.00 per month for several months! After this call I called Sky Protect who told me that this company is NOT !!! endorsed by them and that this was NOT the 1st time that she HAD heard of this company. She advised me to call the TRADING STANDARDS ! Before doing this I spoke to my bank, who put me through to the Indemnity Dept where I was advised that they would refund this money back to my acc and chase this company for the refund themselves. Which I have to say i was extremely thankful for.

My wife also had a direct debit set up without her knowledge and without any previous this company, and had £60 taken from her account. Her bank have been a little slow in acting, but agree this should never have happened.
She decided to go to the Police and they agreed that this was a case of fraud. So DSWC Ltd, the police have your address, my wife has a crime number, and you can expect a knock on your door any time soon.

  • tina

my husband and i found a direct debit set up on our account this morning, we have no idea where they got our details from and have reported the fraud to the bank, the bank cannot tell us how the debit was set up…… they can tell us it was set up on the 14/6/2010 and debited from our account on the 21/6/2010 but thats all.

we are waiting on the police attending to report the fraud on the advice from trading standards….

on reading some of the posts, we are also going to have the bank change us to a new account to prevent any further misuse of our details.

this company is breaking laws, data protection and fraud spring to mind.

  • S Khan

just realised i have been scammed for ages by this stupid digital warranty company!!!! have had to cancel my card as they have been making transactions using my debit card and not doing a direct debit. they’ve been taking out £6 a month for ages. i hate this feeling of being ripped off i feel so stupid. now i have to wait for a new debit card and go through all my bank detauils and find when and where they have taken money from me and call the fraud department at my bank. so angry right now!!!!

  • Christine German

mmmmmm, look’s like I have been had also. Just been on my bank and they have took out £12.00 (card purchase) so after reading all this, I rang my bank and reported them to the fraud department and they are sending out forms etc for me to fill in. Sounds like I have been lucky compared to some! I have rang 4 times and left a message – not expecting a returned call… (although I did say I would like to take out cover….) hee hee :)

  • Result…after numerous Emails and threatening to inform the ombudsman…i recieved a cheque for £25!!!!

  • john

rollkit note: We’ve received this comment from John. We note that the IP address traces to the Canary Islands.

i work for digital warranty care as one of the engineers im based in liverpool aka huyton. i dont no why all you people are going on like this i get at least 3 or 4 call outs a day. anything after 10 maybe 11 is all next day then so on.. you just need to call up fairly early an we get someone out to you straight away if possible.

  • v ritchie

DSWC left me with a broken sky box for 9 months saying they were having stock problems. They then took £89 from my credit card with out my consent, and when i queried it they said that they had written to me to advise me they were re newing my plan but they had not! i think this is illegal and i am now contacting trading standards and my credit card co. When i contacted the DSWC they told me it was my problem as i had not checked my mail properley! i am insensed that i am spending my valuble time sorting this mess out and i will follow it through until i receive my money back.

    • lynne robertson

After having a look at my online bank statement today saw a DD for £25 taken by DSWC Ltd, couldnt think who they were at first then realised i had spoken to someone at beginning of month who told me i should taken out cover on my dish/box/remote as a call out charge without this cover would be £99 before any repairs or work had been done. Told me it was £64 per year. Used the hard sell/intimidating as well. They made out that they were the company that SKY uses to cover warranties. To cut a long story short phoned SKY this morning and they told me this is not the company they use. Cancelled direct debit with bank and then phoned DSWC and they gave me the following email address to contact refunds@satwarranties.co.uk i have now emailed them, i feel a fool for being suckered in by this as i am usually so careful. Anyway if this can stop other people from being conned i hope it works. The bank have also told me to check my statement everyday to see no other unauthorised payments come out from this company.

  • linzeey

i too have been conned by this company ive realised for the last 2 years ive been paying this company i only realised after sorting out all my direct debits and i also pay sky protect i have a number for them 0151 5475251 and its just a message and ive cancelled it with the bank and i just hope they dont start it up again as i did not even know i was paying this company ITS SUCH A SCAM BEWARE

  • Di Gusted

On checking bank account this morning discovered £60 direct debit taken out from DSWC Ltd that I knew nothing about. Telephoned them and was told that they had called me about a month ago and that I had agreed this (which I had no memory of). I don’t need this type of warranty so can’t think why I would agree. The person I spoke to (Pauline) argued with me on the phone that I orderd the cover, I insisted I didn’t and I wanted my money back. She insisted I had to put the request in writing. I called my bank (RBS) they said the DD would be reversed straight away. Complained to Sky they tried to say they don’t give out details to anyone else which is obviously untrue. Too many coincidences – how did DSWC know my Sky box was a year old? How did they know my bank details? Data Protection Act has been breached big style. Waiting to hear from Sky to see what they are going to do about. DO NOT GET SUCKED IN BY THESE PEOPLE!! GET ONTO YOUR BANK AND SKY STRAIGHT AWAY THEY ARE TOTAL SCAMMERS!

  • dennis clark

Caught out by DSWC just prior to my sky warranty expiring -I have cancelled the DD and paid a cencellation fee of £25 (like a fool giving them more bank details ie Debit Card. I cancelled the Debit Card 5 or 6 hours later with the Nat West Bank. Fortunately this was last Bank Holiday
Monday so they cannot use that again. The cancelation fee I mention was to cancel the warranty agreement. The Girl at the company told me the payment had gone through and all I had to do now was to cancel he DD.

What really worries me is hat one person suggests they can recreate a new DD without me knowing. Surely the Bank can put a stop to such happenings without my signature ?

  • Scambuster

It took 3 months for my Bank to get the money back in full from Digital Warranty Care. Apparently 3 months must elapse and it must go through the Fraud Dept of your Bank.
When first contacted I got very annoyed and accused them of being scammers and put the phone down. A while later a woman phoned back and said they were not and gave me the 1st three characters of my card–I was convinced.
Later I thought about it and realised I had been done as I pay SKY monthly.
They had set up something Called a RECURRING DEBIT–not a direct debit. This cannot be cancelled in the normal way and can only be done through your own Bank.
Why the Banks and Authorities don’t Blacklist these people I don’t know.
Just remember SKY would not contact you in this way and they have all your details anyway. These people are SCUM and even convince their own employees that they are genuine!!!
    Cheers

i had a phone call from digital satelite warranty a few months ago they take £6 month off my credit card but they have sent me no paperwork as yet so if my system goes wrong i would.nt know who to contact they.re phone number is 0844 3351 338 and i got that of my credit card compeny who also gave me an adress magdalen street NR3 1JU. • I have joined the list of suckers. Their address now appears to be Digital Warranty Care, Suite !043, Office 6, Slington House, Rankine Road, Basingstoke RG 24 8PH Tel No; 08443351338. My letter was posted in Norwich. May 2010.

  • Paul Stariski

Well it looks like I have been conned by DSWC as well. The B******ds! Called at a time when my Sky warranty was running out. Can’t find any paperwork and so will be cancelling my DD tomorrow. I should have known there was something wrong as I at least had the sense not to give them my debit card details when they offered to take the first payment through my card.

  • Heather

I would advise anyone who considers that they have been conned by DSCW to contact Knowsley Council Trading Standards, who are gathering evidence against DSCW. I believe the police are also involved.

  • Pauline Seddon

Just discovered Digital Warranty hav been taking £6 per month out of my account! I have never taken out an agreement with these people! Have been to Nawest Bank who say they are using my Debit card number to take payments and this is not the same as as direct debit pament so thy are unable to cancel. Suggest I go o fraud dept of Natwest Bank for help. Nobody in their”friendly customer ervice dept” hasrung me back. Sky customer service say they have nevr heard of them. How frustrating for us all!

  • mike t

just rang these guys today and told them where to stick their cover. unfortunatly the wife got suckered by them and took out cover about 6 months ago. our sky+ box just broke so i rang them for help, after 20 mins of solid ringing i got greeted with “hello”. no hi thanks for calling or any sorry for waiting. after finding that we have paid £10 an month for six months i was told sorry your box aint covered…. what pro person says “aint” on the phone…. dont get suckered in by theese guys. sky recommends D&G for cover, i now have a plan with them and its cheeper with better service.

  • Mr Waldron

I have just noticed that DSWC have taken a direct debit from my account I dont have an agreement with them, Have contacted my bank no reply as yet

  • SM

I too have been scammed into thinking these people were connected with Sky as they phoned at the time the warranty on my system would have been up. I gave them my credit card details and payment was taken right away. I have e-mailed them to cancel and refund (not with a great deal of hope) but more worryingly since giving them my details over the phone there has been fraudulent activity on my credit card (fortunately picked up by my bank). Of course I have no proof this company or anyone employed by them are responsible, I can’t help but have suspicions.

PLEASE HELP. who do i call?

  • Alan Oakley

I seem to be a lot luckier than than many of the correspondents to this site because I haven’t paid out any money. Having not replied to letters regarding my warranty ‘expiring’, I have only had to deal with unsolicited telephone calls from their representatives trying to persuade me to take out cover for repairs to my Sky system. When I again refused today, ‘Kevin’ told me I was behaving like a “pr.ck”. He hung up when I asked to speak to his manager and the number was withheld after calling 1471. Good job I have a thick skin.

  • m.doctor

I too have been scammed by DSWC.After a phone call from them saying my Sky insurance was due for renewel. As I already pay Sky digital by DD monthly at £ 6.45 I explained this and they said they no longer do it this way. They asked for £59.99 to keep it up to date.I told them I did not have that ammount of money so they suggested to pay £25.now and then it would be £450 a month. So thought I had better agree to this payment. Just checked my bank statement and found they have taken out £59.99 . Have cancelled my DD for them and was alerted because they called themselves on the phone Sky Digital. They were a new DD as DSWC.How could I have been so stupid. I am a Disabled pensioner and need that money.

  • Gerry davies

I also had a call from these people that said that my sky insurance had run out, and like an idiot I gave them my bank details. I rang sky later then to be told that it wasn’t them, since them i have been trying to cancel it at the bank with no luck.
I have left phone message after phone message.
Can anyone suggest anything else i can do. Help !!

  • Gerry davies

I also have had a phone call from people that said that my sky insurance had ran out, like an idiot i gave them my bank detail. For the last few months I have been trying to stop them taking the money out of the bank, because it’s not a Direct debit this task seems imposible. Can anyone give me some advice HELP!!

  • Jacky - Yorkshire

Got my rewneal letter from Digital Sat Warranty Cover last week, we paid a one off fee last year (& have not had any need to use them) the recent letter or newsletter you might say told me we had until 11th April to contact them to advise 1. if we wanted to continue to use them, 2. change method of payment. Today 5th April we have just received a call from our bank HSBC Fraud Department – a compnay called Nationwide Digital (who are not mentioned on DSWC paperwork) have tried to take £119.99 off our card, we have advised our bank not to process this transaction & I have just rung DSWC to ask them if they are Natinwide Digital? The “girl” on the phoned advised yes they were – when I told her of my call from our bank her comments were”weel we have written to you about your renewal” — yes you have but you are also taking funds from our bank a week before they are due — scammers, have contacted SKY to advise them that this company DSWC are scamming their customers!!!!!

  • Roger

I received a phone call today from Digital Warranty Care saying that my warranty on my Sky Box had expired and that I had to pay £6 a month to continue the warranty. I asked her whether this was mandatory and she said it was. I pushed her again and she said that “everybody with any sense would pay the £6 a month rather than pay expensive repairs”. She said that with the digital switchover that things were bound to go wrong. I asked whether there were other companies who provided warranty cover and she said that they were the cheapest. I declined to pay up. I am really concerned that firstly how does Digital Warranty know that I’ve a Sky Box and why they are lying on the phone. Weaker customers would pay up, and be conned. I’ve reported them to Trading Standards.

  • Geoff Davies

Can anyone tell me why I am paying £19.99 pm for a warranty from DSWC? Duugh. I am now aware it seems to be a scam company. I only knew this when I tried to find the ‘non-existent’ paperwork to find out what level of cover I had (or not as it turns out!)when I received a phone call from Satelite4u.net to sell me cheaper cover. Does anyone know anything about Satellite4u? At least they have a web site.

  • Barry Ross

From the volume of responses this would appear to be a complete scam. The question asked by one responder needs an answer -’Where is DSWC getting its adrress list’ Surely it must be from Sky itself or an emplyee. Have Trading Standards taken an interest in this most unsatisfactory company?

    • Barbara Harvey

They rang me and at the time I was totally involved in work on the computer and thought they were my actual insurance cmpany as the name is similar. Didn’t put the brain in gear before I opened my mouth and gave them my debit card no but nothing else no security number nothing and yet they still took out money from my account. I have received no paperwork from them surprise, surprise!!!! So therefore this is toally illegal as I did not have the chance to read through the so called “terms etc.,” and I did not have the cooling off period. The number given to me to contact an engineer just goes to voice mail and that’s it. They are totally fraudulent and I have now reported them to the Fraud Department. Hopefully this will start getting round as I am going to put it on Twitter and Facebook.

  • Karen

My Mum gave her credit card details over the phone last march thinking it was Sky.When she realsied her mistake she tried to contact them but there is no response. Nat West stopped them taking the money in June and this month Nat West have allowed them to take £18 again. I am going to stop the credit card and see if that does the trick.

  • h christieI

I KEEP RECIEVIN THESE LETTERS FROM THIS COMPANY LAST ONE MARCH THE 17TH 2010,I HAVE HAD PHONE CALLS FROM THESE PEOPLE ASWELL,I AM GLAD I FOUND THIS PAGE,AS NOW I WONT BE GETTIN INSURANCE WITH THEM,WELL DONE,BUT DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO DOES INSURANCE FOR DIGITAL SKY SYSTEMS?AS SKY WANT 99QUID WHICH IS ABIT STEEP FOR ME.

  • Carol Goldthorp

This lot phoned me tonight about the warranty on my Sky box (which expired several years ago). As soon as I heard why they were phoning I gave my standard ‘sorry, not interested’ reply that I give to cold-callers and hung up. A few seconds later, the phone rang again and it was the same girl to say ‘so I suppose you’re not interested in your refund Mrs. Goldhorp’. Before I could say anything else, she hung up. 1471 didn’t give me a phone number I could phone and compalin but, from everyone else’s comments, I’m assuming that I would be wasting my time.

I to was conned by DWSC last year and had a lot problems with them they were very rude, they came to fix my sky+ anytime and put a new one in but it was sky+ without anytime. I ended up getting trading standards involved and got sorted out. As far as I know trading standards are taking them to court. Please be aware they are not connected to Sky in anyway, it took me 8 months to get sorted.

  • Christine Gibson

I have had cover with THESE PEOPLE since July 2009. I never noticed but have been paying for the cover twice a month since then @ £11.99 per month. I phoned their offices to explain and was told to write to them with copies of my bank statements. The overpayment amounted to £95.92. I wrote said letter sent it off and a few days later received a reply saying that they would refund £83.93 (can’t they add up)andhave cancelled one of the direct debits. I am currently still waiting for a refund and they have taken 2 lots in March. So by my calculations they owe me £107.91. Any body got any advice on what to do now?

    • Barbara Harvey

My suggestion would be to cancel all DD’s with this company as they are total skanks. Inform your Trading Standards Officer and the fraud department of your bank. I have been scammed by these people too.

      Hope you get it sorted.

      Barbara

  • Alec Coleman

I’ve had a warranty out with DSWC Ltd for about 2 years, scammed into believing they were a 3rd party company working on behalf of SKY. I’ve been fortunate that I’ve not needed to use the warranty. But in a way I wish I hadn’t been so fortunate. I’d have found out the scam a whole lot sooner.
Cant find there paperwork to contact them to cancel the warranty and, surprise surprise, no website to be found. The direct Debit has been canceled and I’ve got sky’s own cover (including cover for my telly which dswc did not offer) for around the same price. SKY’s 1st offer was higher(inc TV cover) but I said I did not want to pay more than I was with dswc, so got discount. Skys cover does not start for 30 days So hope my luck hold up.

Checked on Companies House web site and the registered address for dswc is:

I stupidly took out a warrantee with DSWC Ltd but before it came up for renewal I cancelled it on the telephone because I had had to take medical retirement and could no longer afford Sky and was told that it wouldn’t be collected again. I also cancelled the direct debit with my bank.

I have today looked at my statement to see that DSWC have taken £109.99 from my account without my permission. I telephoned them on the number given on this site and they said that they sent me a renewal notice which stated that I had until the 10th February 2010 to cancel…. only trouble is that I NEVER RECEIVED THE RENEWAL LETTER. They said that there was a 7 day cooling off period that expired yesterday (funny that) and that I should email their refunds department which I have done. I now await their response.

My sky was installed by a contractor sent by Sky and not by an engineer employed direct by sky.

Even though I cancelled the last Direct Debit, because they have my bank details they were able to set up another one. I am living on sickness benefits and cannot afford to lose this money. Any advice would be greatfully received.

Had a call from this lot (Digital Satellite Warranty) same address, they informed me Sky DO NOT have a warranty scheme -Yes they Do and that registration with MPS/TPS is annual – no it isn’t.

I’ve reported the call to Trading Standards. They have also advised I contact the Information Commissioner – 0845 6306060 as I am registered with MPS/TPS, ex directory etc.

Dont deal with this lot, they tell lies
