Boycott Day Beckons

Back in February, it was reported that ebay would stop allowing traders to leave negative feedback for buyers. Traders are subsequently planning a boycott of ebay on 1st May 2008. I personally won’t be using the site to buy or sell.

Now it appears that ebay is taking legal action against popular website craigslist. Now, I’m slightly worried. If I owned a stake in a company (even if it was a minority 28pc stake), and was unahppy about the way they were conducting business, I’d talk to them. ebay has other ideas and has filed a lawsuit against craigslist.

The case is sealed, so the best we can discover about it is that ebay are unhappy with craigslist.

I have a theory – gumtree is owned by ebay, and appears to be remarkably similar to craigslist. ebay owns gumtree outright, whereas it owns a minority share in craigslist.

I feel that if ebay want people to trust it as a multi national conglomerate, we need to know that this court case is not an attempt by ebay to harm its competition.

Just to let you know that Gumtree have taken my money to be in the featured section advertising Man & Van services in London, and have NOT PUT MY AD IN THE FEATURED SECTION. Also they charged me TWICE instead of once to be featured before. I’ve sent the same letter of complaint to them today about seven or eight times so they get the message.
Please advise me what would you do? Send me an email.

    Cheers.

There are media reports that traders are boycotting ebay on 1st May.

There is no evidence anywhere that anyone is boycotting gumtree or craigslist.

I’m very happy to continue to use craigslist – I’m sure the other 72pc of stakeholders would be very happy for anyone to continue to use the site too!

  • So if we boycott gumtree, and craigslist who is left?
