Annoying The Annoyers

We’ve been getting an awful lot of letters lately from “Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd”. When your Sky warranty runs out after 12 months, these people jump in and try to sell you 13 months cover for the price of 12 at £65. After calling them twice, they are still sending me mailings, so I’m complaining through the usual channels.

It turns out that Sky themselves pass on your details at some point, unless you specifically ask them not to. You can email them using a form on their website to tell them you don’t agree to them passing on your information.

Interestingly, Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd, Unit 5, Capitol Trading Park, Kirkby Bank Road, Kirkby L33 7SY also has a company called “Data Protection Agency Registration Services Ltd” which is listed on the Information Commissioners Office as a bogus agency, and the Office Of Fair Trading has taken action against them.

BT.com lists them as Nationwide Digital Satellite Warranty Services Ltd, Tel: 0151 5475250, Unit 5 Capitol Trdg Pk Kirkby Bank Rd, Kirkby L33 7SY

What can you do to help? Since they are sending me junk email and refuse to stop when I tell them to, allowing them reasonable time to do so, and I don’t want to harass them back myself, here is their freepost address:

FREEPOST
RRHK-EUUZ-EKHC
Unit 5
Capitol Trading Park
Kirkby Bank Road
Knowsley Industrial Park
LIVERPOOL L33 7SY

I won’t suggest that you send them anything, as this would be incitement to cause harassment, but I felt a company that’s willing to harass me with junk mail (day, after day), should be mentioned here. When they apologise to me and prove to me that they have removed my details (not just told me, but actually proved it), I’ll edit this post to remove their freepost address – only fair.

Update: 04/11/2007

I have discovered that Nationwide Digital Satellite Warranty Services Ltd have their very own website – http://ndsws.co.uk – except it is still ‘under construction’.

Update: 30/11/2007

In the December Sky Magazine, there’s a full page advert for the Sky Repair Plan – which is operated by Domestic And General. Sky have no reason to pass our details on to Nationwide Digital Satellite Warranty Services Ltd, as their own plan makes them money. The only other people who can pass your details on to companies such as this one are the people who come out to install the equipment – be they independent companies or Sky Agents themselves.

If you’ve had a barrage of letters from Nationwide Digital Satellite Warranty Services Ltd, leave a comment to let us know whether Sky installed the kit themselves, or an independent contractor did the work for you.

    Hi All..

I waS looking at my online banking early this morning and noticed a payment go out for £5.99 from DSWC. I have had no contact from this company, never even heard of them and have also spoke to SKY who said they have never passed my details to anyone but somehow this complany has got hold of my bank details and setup a direct debit without my knowledge and without my permission. I now intend to not only contact my fraud line with the bank about this and also contact the Police so I think that they can expect a nice court case if I have anything to do with it.

I’m grateful to you for pointing out that Sky pass on details. I didn’t even go ahead with a Sky installation (they messed me about with an installation date, so I cancelled) – and still my details have clearly ended up with this third party! I did make the “no third party contact” request, too.

    Greetings everyone.
We received a letter from “rrhk-euuz-ekhc” who ever they are. When we set this up August last year when a Sky representative came a courting Pepe and Sky were the only involved parties in the deal. So either Sky are lying or Pepe has been a very bad boy.
Pepe may be comming to a street near you (Leeds that is).
Any body want his agent number?

Just received telephone call from digital satellite services. unit 5 captitol trading estate. kirby l33 7sy. tried to sell cover saying it was running out in three months. Only thing is we are already paying by direct debit, said infomation passed to them by data warehouse.

I left a note on my other post, but here it is again, in case you miss it.

Sky have said most profusely that they don’t pass your details on to this company. They have their own warranty product they are more than happy to promote to you.

The only other person who would know that you have Sky is the retailler who installed it – mine was a company called Spectrum Communications, based in Croydon.

They now seem to be part of a bigger group, Spectrum (UK), and as I say, if anyone else apart from Sky knows that we have it, it can only be the company which installed it.

If anyone did get their Sky installed by a Sky engineer from Sky, and still receives these letters, that would disprove my theory. But I think it’s the only viable answer.

I too have received phone calls (early Sunday morning) late evening etc and received quite a few letters through the post. I am wondering just how many naive and vulnerable pensioners these conmen are actually getting money out of.

I noticed straight away due to the fact that the letter they send looks like it was done by some 3 year old on an old copy of Wordperfect, but some people wont.

I called and spoke to a very abrupt lady (chav) who advised me that my sky warranty was in fact running out. So I thought I would try a little game with them.

    1. I asked them for the details of my sky account – they said they didn’t have those details.

    2. I asked them for the details of my Sky equipment so I could verify they had the right ones – I was again told that they didn’t have this information on their system.

    3. I then asked if they could possibly explain to me how they therefore knew that a. I had a sky box in the first place and b. that the warranty was running out.

    4. I then proceeded to tell her that they will probably soon be following in Woolworths footsteps and that she should look to take her weekend burger van job full time and hung up.

Oh and remember if you are going to call them use the local rate number on the bottom of the form and not the 0870 or 0871 numbers and also dial 141 before the number to block your number from appearing. (also works with mobiles).

I then wrote them a nice message on their letter, tore the address off and popped it back into the nice freepost envelope provided. It would be very interesting if everyone who received a letter did in fact send them some form of response in there freepost envelopes. Although I personally don’t condone that kind of behaviour.

Plus the freepost address could be written on any envelope or small parcel and will still be sent to them, the number 1 in the top right corner has no bearing on this.

Hope this helps anyone who is interested. Post your experiences below and let me know how you get on.

Hahaha, the little tinkers will try anything apparently!
Got a phone call from a suitably abrupt young lady(?) who told me that my warranty had actually EXPIRED *gasps* I told her no thank you, she then rounded on me by agressively demanding I tell her what I would do if my box broke down……I proceeded to tell her that I thought that was up to me really, to which I was told “Well that’s a stupid answer you silly B*tch”.

BUT….and I must stress here, the company name she gave me was ‘Direct Warranties’, to whom I shot off an e-mail complaining heartily at their practices. This resulted in a phone call from a gentleman most bemused that I was complaining of an abusive sales call when in fact, they don’t DO outbound calls! He suggested I look into it being one of Satellite Directs offshoots…a small amount of googling later and here I am!

I’m quite sure they wont be able to help themselves and look forward to their next charming, persuasive call with anticipation…hoping Jay wont mind too much if I ‘borrow’ some of the points above! Harsh, but fair!

I to have had several letters concerning the above company,I even went to the TSO to see if i could do any thing,it seems that my local trading stantards office are unaware of this company.I myself see this letter they send out as a veiled threat pointing out if you don’t take action now you’ll have to pay x amount of £££s and no guarantee when a engineer will come out.I,m most annoyed with sky giving my details to a third party and shall be calling them to complain and again report the issue to the TSO.

  • DAVID CARTER

if everybody who gets a phone call keeps them talking for as long as possible ,it will cost them money .
if you send back there freepost envelopes that will also cost them money

  • Darren

Sky haven’t given them your details but sometimes Sky use another company (sub contract) from Liverpool and I think they have done it. Contact the Police, I have and after several calls from them they have now given DSWC Ltd an official warning regarding the Harassment act. Any further contact with me will result in prosecution. This has taken a long time to sort out but it started by making a complaint to the Police and getting a log number followed by everytime DSWC Ltd contacted me by post(sometimes 8 letters in 1 day) or by phone I would call the Police and add another complaint to the log. The Police will do something eventually if you are persistent and mention you are being harassed. Lets all complain to the Police and get the directors prosecuted.

  • Yann

I have received dozens of mails and calls from them in the last 12 month.
They always confirm that my details have been removed every time I spoke to them.
Sometimes they claimed they called on behalf of Sky…
Funny I work for Sky so I asked my colleagues…
Nothing to do with Sky and SKy didn’t sell them any listing!
Sky have been to court about this case last year…

    They called me again yesterday!

You’ve got an address already and a phone number…

    I give you 2 names:
    - Lisa Haffenden – Supposed to be Sales Manager
    - Laura Shields – Supposed to be Refund/Complaint Manager

    Enjoy!

  • Gemma

I have received 2 letters in the last week from them to the wrong name….Mr M Reid – I take it the phone number I have had installed from work used to belong to this Mr Reid and now they have acquired the address for the phone number and are now sending his mail here. I just did 1471 after my work number rang continuously for 5 minutes (twice) and got the number as listed above…..highly annoying

Thanks for your comments and thoughts everyone. An update on my situation – I waited a couple of weeks after registering with TPS online, still receiving a letter every week at that time. I literally told them that they were harassing me, I was registered with TPS and should I receive any more post I would not only get TPS involved, but also consult a solicitor regarding their harassment. I haven’t heard from them in a couple of months now…

  • Fran

Glad I found this as I keep getting nuisance calls from them and have just reported them to the TPS. As for their “urgent letters” I keep sending them back to them in their own Freepost Envelopes as that way it at least costs them the price of a postage stamp!!!

  • Helen

We have just recieved a letter form digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd addressed to our house, but to a completely unknown name. I’m sure it is not a previous resident as we have lived here 27 years! Also we don’t have Sky, never have done and never will. Don’t know if I should contact them, not sure if it will more harm than good?

  • S W, London WC1

I have just recieved yet another letter this morning from Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd, this is after being assured time and time again by the people at Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd, that all my details have been removed from their system.

Hrrrm I think they may be telling a porky or two.

I have lost track of the number of “Urgent” letters that have been sent to me in both white & manilla envelopes, wanting my credit or debit card details. “NOT ON YOUR NELLY”, this Company shows all the outward signs of a dodgy and untrustworthy company, and acts more like an agressive bailiff, than a SKY Warranty company.

Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd, where did you get my details, was it from SKY’s James Murduoch? It wasn’t from me! Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd is no part of and is nothing to do with SKY, so don’t be fooled by their “Urgent” letters.

If my warranty has run out with SKY, and my epuipment should fail, then I would just close my contract, and open a new one, with new equipment, and recycle the old! No need for unscrupulous conmen.

getting same letters and phone calls, had 6 letters last month and 4 phone calls, told them to remove me off there list but still getting the calls/letters(even calling on my mobile now),contacted sky and waiting for response.

  • Dan

Yeah, I’ve been getting stuff from them too. Today I got two letters (6 and 7 of my collection), maybe they think I’m going to buy two warranties?

Anyway, I’ve done the phone up thing a couple of times. They advise this time that it can take up to 3 weeks to get removed from their database (yah, right).

Oh, and this is all thanks to Sky, who although they had the fact that I didn’t want marketing info from them, nor do I want the guide. Apparently they didn’t untick the box that says “sell my information to anyone that asks for it”.

    Ho hum :>

  • dave

Tried Calling me too and now are sending their junk mail to me,pity sky didnt tell them that I already have insurance arranged thru sky

  • Gavin T

Guess what company has just tried calling me? That’s right, Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd!
